Training with the Garmin! and My Dream Bike!

Ok so had a great day...went for a swim with my friend Luis at the Cranston YMCA...Here is the link to my swim results today...Frist time using Garmin!!!  I did an easy 550 yards...I wanted to check on the new Garmin 910xt, I just got....

It is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Counts distance, strokes, elevation, heartrate, intervales, time, plus a bunch of other things I am not even sure about yet!!!!!

Then we went for the First RUN:OUTISDE of the year... a sweet 5.5 miles in just uner 59  minutes..you can check out the rest of the stats from the run today at the following link==>..Todays Run.

So the Garmin 910xt...First time I have ever used a training watch...I liked it alot (can you tell??).  This watch is pretty light and flat.  Was not too diffucult to go from screen to screen once I realized what screen was what....Thank you to Melissa for helping me set it up yesterday...  The watch did not effect my swim stroke at all. On the run, Only thing was trying to decided if I want to wear it on the front or back of my wrist..That will have to be a decision I will have to make as I train more with the watch and heart rate monitor on.

Speaking of heart rate monitor.  I did not even realize I had it on while I was running!!!!! And it worked great!

So we went to Providence Bike this afternoon to look at the bike candance to match the Garmin and there she was....MY DREAM TRI BIKE  the Quintana Roo CD0.1 Women's Triathlon Bike...So I am thinking and thinking and thinking about buying this bike....I can go put it on layaway  and it is on sale right now..over 30 off!!!  But if I did that then I would need a new helmet and new shoes and pedals!!!!  Maybe even a PINK TRI NEW SUIT!!!!
Here is a picture of my sweet dream...

As soon as the taxes are done and the refund comes in.....I just might!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We also had our first skype call with Coach Tara......It went really well after we all figured out how to use the skype.

I was able to do all the assigned workouts plus a little more....I felt good the whole week...

142 DAYS & A WAKE UP TO GO

HOWDYYYYY...  OK so I am not a good blogger,   I have not made an entry since Nov 30th 2011...

The Holidays were busy and crazy, lots of traveling and parties... not alot of training...Exercise yes but NO real training..

But guess what all changes the second week of Janurary!!!!!!

This last saturday was my first HIM training session with my USAT coach.   Tara Comer is my coach.  I am doing a small group training, there are four women, all traiing for the Patirots 70.3 Triathlon...142 days and a wakeup to go...
Session number one...a swim !!!!!!  Tara watched as we did a few laps and and started to give us direction and advice on to strengthen and correct our forms and habits in the water.

I feel pretty comfortable in the water, most of the time, espically in the pool.. But Tara noted that I am holding my shoulders really tight and high to my ears  I also need to learn to press with my chest when swimming to lower my upper body and lift my lower body and decrease the drag.  The other big thing to work on is the bilateral breathing.....

The training schedule is in the base building phase.  This phase is a light mix of running, swimming and biking to work on form and learning new habits and correcting bad habits.

At work, BUSY as always...planning the 2012 Rhode Island Obesity Symposium, a state wide symposium on the diease of obesity.  I have been working like crazy on this project since December...Today we received our first offical registration..4 months before the event!!!!  Now if I could just hear about the grants we applied for.....

OH YEAH!!! Great news...Last year I was running with one of our local running groups and one of the runner went down having a heart attack...Another runner there is a doctor, we did CPR on teh gentleman till rescue got there and took him to the hospital.  Well last month  THAT MAN attended a CPR class that we held and he is running again.  I got the greatest gift from the children of the gentleman...it is a coffee cup that they personalized and said thank you to me on.....It brought me to tears to be given such a wonderous gift!!!!

A picture of my grandsons in their TRI NEW JR Disions Tops!

198 days and 9 hours left!!!! till 70.3 Miles of FUN!

So I so belive in this saying:"IF FOUND ON GROUND,PLEASE DRAG ACROSS FINISH LINE!" ...So at the Patriots..if any of you see me on the ground...pick my booty up and make me keep going!!!!!

I have been very busy at work with up coming obesity symposium in May 2012....working on grants requests and vendor tables sales  and all the things that go into creating a symposium...

Also very excited cause in 23 Days I'll be holding my little Grandbabies in my arms again!!!   Lil' Griffin is talking up a storm every time I talk to him on the phone...His Mommy and Daddy are buying their first home tomorrow and I am so proud of them!  Craigie is cooing alot lately and getting so big... can not wait to get there and go for a run with Grifin...he tells his grammie  RUN Grammie RUN....

So training!!!

This week I started a Crossfit class.  it is three trimes a week for now,,,this morning work out of the day or what they call WOD: was 10 squat jumps, 10 push up, 10 squat wall balls, and then a 200 meter run  done as fast as you can and in good form then do it all over again three time..... so I finished the work out in 9 minutes and 3 minutes...not too bad..but on my second round I only able to do 7 push up ...So as the classes progress so does the workouts...they get longer and harder but the toughest part thus far (being only the second class) is getting up at 430 am to be at the gym for the class to start at 530...

Then this evening after my 5th meeting of the day I rushed over to the BLVD for a quick run with my friend Cathy...
Luis had "challenged" us all to 100 runs in 100 days...I started three days ago and have gotten in three runs in three days thus far...one on Monday, and two today....had to make up for the run i missed yesterday...

Tomorrow will be another run and a return to the pool.  Been away from the pool since last Thursday...YES TURKEY DAY...Luis made me go to the gym for a 7 am swim and then a 4 mileish run...

So only 198 days to go till 70.3 miles of fun!

Week Three is DONE!!!!!! What i used to be and What I am now!!

So this picture is pretty scary....TO be honest, I can say this is almost exactly what I  looked like in July 2005.....
This week I was asked by one of my patients, "why do you do those crazy running things?"   and I said to her, "CAUSE I CAN".  I know all my friends and family here me say this all the time now...and THANKS for putting up with me for saying it all the time....

These are many of the co morbid condtions that go with OBESITY..... Many of which I had myself
But the point of the pictures are not what the person looks like in the pictures but all the words that surround them...I am so gratefull to be healthy enough to be able to do the things many people think are CRAZY.....

Week One really not week one...and ended sadly...

Week one, really was not week one...Was only able to train one day this week.....Yesterday, Saturday, I was able to run 3.35 miles in around 34 miutes  an aver of 10:10 min/mile... then I meet up with some walking friends and did the same route...

Some of my "excuses":  I worked from 7 am till about 8 pm almost every day...and my most frequent running buddy was traveling and I got lazy....was thinking I really need to do this  but I have time....

Oh, played Kintex with Melissaon Friday night..and I think my ab's hurt more from that then anything......

Week two starts today:

Swam this morning at the Cranston YMCA...200 warm up, 200 Drills ( 100 fist swiming, 100 kick board); then 400 with a 30 second rest then 200 with 15 second rest and then cool down of 100 yards... 1100 yards...I almost forgot:  How much I hate the pool.....I had to keep saying  just a few more laps  just a few more laps......just keep swimming  just keep swimming....:-)

Then ran about 15 minutes on the tread mill.  Ended run ealry cause Luis had received some very sad news.

Luis I just want you and your family to know we are praying for you.  We are here for you if you need anything!!!!!  Luis lost his brother today...RIP David Jesus Roslaes...and We pray for PEACE and Grace for Luis and the rest of his family....

The bike "Lil Red" is in her winter "cave"....I set her up on the trainer for the rest of the fall and winter... Ready to go... set her up to be able to see my phone and watch netflicks on it while I am riding....

Ok, so this week should be better.....
