You did what??? A total of 69 Miles in 48 hours!!

"What? Are you nuts? You did what?"... is what one of my coworkers said to me this morning. I was talking to a group of co workers about what we did this weekend and how great the New England weather was for being outside on Saturday and Sunday.  So I repeated what I had just said:  I did a total of 69 miles of physical activity in about 48 hours.

It started on Friday evening around 5 pm with a 1500 yards swim at the Cranston YMCA... FRI Swim

Then of course off to Bar 101 with Sparky and Hubby for dinner and drinks (did not count those into the mileage though!)...Our favorite Local Bar...

Saturday:  Sparky is at the house, in Johnston RI,  by 615 am....we packed up Sliver Bullet (the Jeep) with all of our gear and Bikes..got gas and was on the road for 8 am to headed to the Patriots Bike course, In Freetown, MA.  In 1: 48 riding time and 1:58 total time we covered 28 miles....(I dropped a chain and we were trying to following directions on a map).  Not too bad..I thought it would be much worse then it was....SO after the ride we did a short 30 minute run, I got just 3 miles in!!!!
Saturday Patriots ride......Run after ride

After The brick, we headed to Narragansett RI.  We were meeting  a couple of friends for lunch.  Of course we were there a little early so we decided to walk the Narragansett Beach...2+ more miles there..  So we had lunch at Crazy Burger in Narragansett...
Sunday was the RIDA 5K.. 2012 it was the 4th year in a row for me to do this race...The RIDA 5k was the first official race I ever did in my life in 2008.
.

Thank you to Sue and her team that does a great job every year,,,, And first time I got to run outside in shorts and summer running top...(running bra, for those of you who do not know what one of those are!)

I had talked to Leslie the day before and decided I would try the Patriots course all over again!!!  Yeah twice in 26 hours, I figured for the race I was going to have to do it twice to get the full 56 miles!

Met Leslie up there around 130 and we headed out...at about mile 2 I realized I left my phone on the front seat of the Jeep (that had no doors on it...ALMOST time to go TOPLESS on Silver Bullet!)  Back to the Jeep and started the route all over again....Warm Up!.

One hour and 44 minutes later we made it back to the cars...Patriots bike route on Sunday

So the total count for the Friday 4-13/5 pm to Sunday 4-15/430pm and a  2 mile walk on the beach!!!

Great Swim, Not so Good Run, Awesome Ride

Well I hope everyone enjoyed their respective Holiday Weekend.  For those of you who are either Jewish or Christian.  I hope either way it was a beautiful time for fellowship, good food and times with your family  & friends.

I had a productive weekend.  Friday Evening...took in a small trot of about 4 miles, even though the Garmin said 3 (I was wiping the running nose) and turned off my Garmin at about mile 2 and did not notice it till about mile three.  But it was still a good run.  It was an interval run after a few minutes warming up running almost all out for 2 minutes then recovery run for two minutes x 3, then a tempo run for a mile then a nice jog home.  Later that evening went to McDermott Pool with Melissa and Leslie..and swam about 1800 or so yards...Even with all the toys in the world I still can not keep count of laps in the pool.  The SWEET thing was the pool was warm...Thank God!!! But by the time we were done swimming there was a warm fog raising out of the water..almost eerie...

Saturday was the Jamestown Bridge 10K.,,,,,BEAUTIFUL DAY!!!  Little chilly to start, but nice.  My First mile was AWESOME!!!!  did it is 8:18... Yahoo.. then the tummy started to gurgle....OH NO!!!  By the time I got to mile 3.5 I was walking and praying to find a spot in the woods....But nope did not find any...By the time I was back on the bridge and coming over the other side of it I was just praying to make it off the bridge before getting sick.  it was cold and windy on the bridge going back and most of you know I have a fear of bridges...running this race last year started the winning battle of defeating that fear!!!!  About 400 or 500 yards left of the bridge, a GREAT FRIEND!!!  Dianne, stopped to encourage me to finish the race with her, I think when she saw the distress in my face she knew I was not feeling well.  She walked to the end of the bridge with me and was my "look out" while I was hiding int he bushes under the bridge....THANK YOU DIANNE!!!!  Enough of the GROSS stuff...  Back to the run....Dianne and I walked a little more, then my gut started to feel better and we jogged the last .2 miles or to the finish line.

Still trying to figure out why I had a sick gut that morning, maybe it was because I was running int eh AM for the first time in months, been running in the afternoon and at night since December?.  Maybe it was cause I had not taken my anti-acid med?  I had not changes my diet that morning or the night before, So who knows...  BUT I FINISHED...a little slower then I wanted especially starting out with such a great first mile.... official time was 1hr17minutes45 seconds....for 6.2 miles....

PRETTY IN PINK!! And Tribute to BIG RED..

Pretty in Pink
So my "Pretty in Pink" bike is almost ready for me to pick her up from Providence Bicycle.  She is so pretty and looks so fast...I know I know it will be what i put into her to make her move fast...But I am sure I will be able to go a little faster on this bike then BIG RED...

Sean
And since I did take a nasty fall last year, Sean recommended I get a new helmet!!!!(Yup we are blaming Sean on the new helmet and shoes, that is  Sean  in the picture above...IN FACT the whole new TRI bike purchase can be blamed on Sean !!!!!)

Required Bike Accessories!
Do not get me wrong I love BIG RED...Actually BIG RED just got home from the "Bike Hospital" tonight...AGAIN THANKS to the guys and gals at Providence Bike , she is feeling better and riding smoother...She needed some new tires and a chain and rear cassette...been putting off her repairs cause she was on the trainer for the winter...
BIG RED
But now BIG RED is back home where she belongs... Sean said to me tonight, while I was contemplating putting her inside the Jeep or on the bike rack, "Just throw her on the rack she is your beater bike now!!"

It took a minute to realize what he meant by that and it felt kinda sad...BIG RED took me through my first two TRI seasons and had a couple of nasty falls on her..but I learned so much during the last two years....I have met some great people who taught me to race a bike and not just ride it....I learned confidence to ride "clipped" in.  Learned balance and determination...learned that "Dog Shit" is a good mantra, for me, when I am trying to push and pedal up a hill....Learned that the "first" fall/crash does happen..and when it does you get up and brush off and get RIGHT BACK ON....

CAUSE I CAN NOW....AND YOU CAN TOO!!!

NEW BIKE and NEW INK! :-)

Howdy!!!  Yesterday I was at Providence Bike Shop putting my deposit on my new TRI BIKE....

I had a fitting over the weekend.  Which was really cool.  You sit on a special bike that is adjustable in all ways..and you ride.  As you ride there are sensors on your body and it is recorded.  As you tell the person what feels right and  they try different levels of the seat and peddles and aero bars..etc...

I am very nervous because this is A LOT of money!!!!  Especially for EL CHEAPO!!!! Queen of the Deal!!! How much can I take off that price???? But it is really a nice bike!!!  And the color is one of my favorites!!!   Can we say just a little PINK!!!!!  Gonna have to find Pink bar tape though!!!!

The CD0.1 Ultegra uses QR’s exclusive 18 millimeter offset downtube SHIFT that diverts concentrated airflow away from the drive side to produce a true measurable bike-course advantage for every athlete at every level.

Features include:
  • Premium modulus carbon fiber construction
  • Ultegra components
  • ISM Adamo saddle
  • Shimano R500 Wheels
  • Vision Trimax Alloy TT crankset
  • New rear brake design improves braking performance plus increased clearance for the latest generation of wider race wheels
  • BB30 bottom bracket technology
  • Reynolds Strike Wheelset upgrade available <-----GOT THESE!!!!!

As you can tell I cut and pasted that from the website...now I know what about half of that means... I know I am in for a big learning curve....  The bike should be here next WEDNESDAY!!!!!!!  YEAH!!!!!!

Hubby called me today with a proposal...First thing I was thinking is uhmmmm what kind of trouble am I in NOW!!!  Then he goes "your getting a new tri bike...and my bday is less then 2 weeks away"...and I say "Yeah and???"....He says, "I think you should buy me a NEW TATTOO for my bday."..."Ok, I get a new toy and you get new INK..." I can live with that!!! (Who wants to bet I get new ink too?????)
