Training with the Garmin! and My Dream Bike!

Ok so had a great day...went for a swim with my friend Luis at the Cranston YMCA...Here is the link to my swim results today...Frist time using Garmin!!!  I did an easy 550 yards...I wanted to check on the new Garmin 910xt, I just got....

It is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Counts distance, strokes, elevation, heartrate, intervales, time, plus a bunch of other things I am not even sure about yet!!!!!

Then we went for the First RUN:OUTISDE of the year... a sweet 5.5 miles in just uner 59  minutes..you can check out the rest of the stats from the run today at the following link==>..Todays Run.

So the Garmin 910xt...First time I have ever used a training watch...I liked it alot (can you tell??).  This watch is pretty light and flat.  Was not too diffucult to go from screen to screen once I realized what screen was what....Thank you to Melissa for helping me set it up yesterday...  The watch did not effect my swim stroke at all. On the run, Only thing was trying to decided if I want to wear it on the front or back of my wrist..That will have to be a decision I will have to make as I train more with the watch and heart rate monitor on.

Speaking of heart rate monitor.  I did not even realize I had it on while I was running!!!!! And it worked great!

So we went to Providence Bike this afternoon to look at the bike candance to match the Garmin and there she was....MY DREAM TRI BIKE  the Quintana Roo CD0.1 Women's Triathlon Bike...So I am thinking and thinking and thinking about buying this bike....I can go put it on layaway  and it is on sale right now..over 30 off!!!  But if I did that then I would need a new helmet and new shoes and pedals!!!!  Maybe even a PINK TRI NEW SUIT!!!!
Here is a picture of my sweet dream...

As soon as the taxes are done and the refund comes in.....I just might!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We also had our first skype call with Coach Tara......It went really well after we all figured out how to use the skype.

I was able to do all the assigned workouts plus a little more....I felt good the whole week...

142 DAYS & A WAKE UP TO GO

HOWDYYYYY...  OK so I am not a good blogger,   I have not made an entry since Nov 30th 2011...

The Holidays were busy and crazy, lots of traveling and parties... not alot of training...Exercise yes but NO real training..

But guess what all changes the second week of Janurary!!!!!!

This last saturday was my first HIM training session with my USAT coach.   Tara Comer is my coach.  I am doing a small group training, there are four women, all traiing for the Patirots 70.3 Triathlon...142 days and a wakeup to go...
Session number one...a swim !!!!!!  Tara watched as we did a few laps and and started to give us direction and advice on to strengthen and correct our forms and habits in the water.

I feel pretty comfortable in the water, most of the time, espically in the pool.. But Tara noted that I am holding my shoulders really tight and high to my ears  I also need to learn to press with my chest when swimming to lower my upper body and lift my lower body and decrease the drag.  The other big thing to work on is the bilateral breathing.....

The training schedule is in the base building phase.  This phase is a light mix of running, swimming and biking to work on form and learning new habits and correcting bad habits.

At work, BUSY as always...planning the 2012 Rhode Island Obesity Symposium, a state wide symposium on the diease of obesity.  I have been working like crazy on this project since December...Today we received our first offical registration..4 months before the event!!!!  Now if I could just hear about the grants we applied for.....

OH YEAH!!! Great news...Last year I was running with one of our local running groups and one of the runner went down having a heart attack...Another runner there is a doctor, we did CPR on teh gentleman till rescue got there and took him to the hospital.  Well last month  THAT MAN attended a CPR class that we held and he is running again.  I got the greatest gift from the children of the gentleman...it is a coffee cup that they personalized and said thank you to me on.....It brought me to tears to be given such a wonderous gift!!!!
